Tips To Practice Before Cycle Events

Group Riding

There is a need to go in multiple group rides. It helps in knowing other riders. You can learn how others ride at high speeds.  You can also contact a local club and take training sessions. Group riding will teach you the cycling basics, and you can get around with ease.

Go Prepared

Familiarize yourself with cycling and ensure race organizers share the route in advance. Check the ride sections beforehand. If the cycle events include hill driving, go prepared. Note the danger points and potential hazards on the course, so go well prepared.

Check Your Bike

Before you start your race, make sure that you make your bike through the checking. Ensure you test everything. Nothing should stay loose. Check the shifting and proper functioning of brakes. Give your drive train and chain a good cleaning.

Pack Your Gear

Pack everything that you need one night before the race. You may understand the expected weather. It is because you can take the essentials accordingly. Prepare a checklist including socks, helmet, shoes, shirts, cycling top, gloves, and jacket.  Some races may ask you for your race license. Without fail, pack your driving license.

What To Eat And Drink Before Cycle Events?

Food And Bottles In Cycle Events

Make sure to fill your water bottles and remember to take gels and energy bars. The race length will determine the bottle and gel requirement. If the event is extended, you need to drink and eat for the first hour around 500 calories.

Eat As Usual During Cycle Events

Before a race, you need not experiment with what you should eat. Eat as usual the same carbohydrate-rich meal that you have before you go for a training ride. Remember to stay hydrated before the race. Even, if you have a mountain of pasta as your regular meal, stick to the same.

Always Eat Breakfast

Eat breakfast before the race for at least two hours. Eat something having protein, carbohydrates, and make sure you are eating your usual breakfast. Make no changes. Good options include peanut butter on toast and porridge. Stay hydrated.

Gentle Ride

After fine-tuning your bike one day before the event, you may go for a small spin before the race. Going on a simple turn keeps your body prepared, and your muscles will be ready.  Exerting yourself one day before the race by practicing long rounds will make you tired, so avoid it.

Reach Early

Start and reach before time. It is best than searching for the location at the last moments. Get the maps, directions, and start times printed for the cycle events and arrive early.  Register and get your number pinned and take a final toilet break. Perform some warm-up, check for potential hazards, and understand the last lap of the race.
